Jungle Book

With only tiny pieces of physical set constructed, our job was to complete the illusion that a young boy raised by animals could run, jump and play in a fantasy version of the Indian jungle – all created digitally. In many ways this film mixed animation and live-action techniques and attitudes, which was exciting but also very challenging. We would fully construct a digital world. So we didn’t want the intense planning required in every phase of production to inhibit a freedom to discover. I was fortunate to be present during all pre-production phases and shoot, so that in post I could synthesise all the influences into final sets that were suitable for action and the cut, while being true to the original intentions of production designer Chris Glass.
